She has landed in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she has discovered happiness; but to keep under the law's radar, she has had to work dead end jobs and be paid under the table. In her 8th adventure she is working as a 'gofer' for a high-end beauty salon. Miguel Angel, her celebrity boss, has been hired to do a very pricey make-over for a bride on her wedding day. Said bride just happens to be the fiancée of King Oden, a notorious gossip and a very vicious man with the wrong kind of influence. Before the wedding ceremony, Oden gets drunk and fights with everyone. Then immediately after the ceremony someone shoves him in the pool and lets him drown. Here come the police and here is Helen caught in another murder investigation. Of course the police detective in charge decides to go after Helen and her celebrity boss as the killers. It's a very intricate chase where Helen is trying to clear herself and her boss and at the same time find the real killer.Elaine Viets is a master at juggling several plots and keeping the story moving. She creates intriguing characters and keeps the readers guessing all through the story. This is a great read, but don't start it just before bed-time as it is hard to put down.

love this series and this author. would highly recommend. looking forward to more in the series
Another good dead-end jobs mystery from Elaine Viets. Not the best one in the series but certainly a good one. Good price, too.
I just love Viets' books. The job ideas are ones most people can relate to in one form or another.
The characters are well balanced, with crazy ones like the landlady, as well as normal ones like the boyfriend.
It's fun to read about Florida, and Viets shows different issues and problems that arise not only in the area, but also the jobs she writes about.
I'd say it's a toss up on whether the reader figures out "whodoneit" or not. It depends on if you are trying to, and how much experience you have reading her books.
The dialogue is well written, and it's not something you have to go back and reread to get it.
It's amazing how she's done all these jobs. When you pay attention to the writing, it may make you think about these service people in a new way.
Overall, this is a good book, and I can't wait for another episode of Helen's exploits (or the Josie series)
This series is growing in me. Wasn't as thrilled with the first one, now I can't read them fast enough. Then she makes me cry at the end.
I've read her entire Dead End Job series. Each book can stand alone. Loved everyone of them. I'm even re-reading them second time around. This series is a keeper. Very real characters and situations. I've had a couple of her dead end jobs myself, also left a crazy ex-husband except I had 6 kids to take with me. I definitely related to her heroine. who is smart but determined to rise above the legal system that trapped her into her situation. In addition to being a good read her books are also inspirational for anyone in a dead end job.. Loved the ending.
The Dead End job series has a compelling main character and great real life details It's set in Ft. Lauderdale. These books are relaxing. Read them in order to get the full development of the main character. If you like the first one, buy the rest of them at one time so you can find out what happens.
I really like these books. My only slight con with this one is that at times I felt like I was reading statements, short and choppy, but the book was still really good.
SPOILERS!!!
I only have one question - the next book is another job for Helen, so why did she leave Miguel Angel? With the exception of Phoebe, the group was great, and it was obvious that they all got along and adored one another. I know there would be a fault in the series if she did not get another job, but this one seemed very good.
